What is the Fairplay Employer award?

An innovative practical subscription programme to support, connect and recognise organisations leading on inclusive growth.  Join hundreds of companies across Wales and the UK, on a year-on-year journey cultivating a truly inclusive workplace.

  • Achieve recognition for your achievements.
  • Benchmark your equality journey.
  • Work directly with our consultants who will offer assurance, practical and tangible actions for progression.
  • Expert support given to drive your organisation forward, giving your business the opportunity to thrive.

Most organisations realise that they need to create an inclusive working environment where everyone is valued and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential; regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnicity or disability. But the structures that hold people back and discriminate unfairly can be hard to identify and dismantle, the road to inclusivity isn’t always straightforward.

FairPlay Employer offers innovative and structured programmes to support your diversity and inclusion ambitions; through a detailed benchmarking process, our experts will assess your organisation against others in your sector and award you recognised FairPlay Employer status, and then create a detailed and practical action plan to help you work towards and achieve higher standards.

Fairplay Employer can help and support organisations to identify barriers and inequalities and equip them with the tools needed to tackle them.

What Level of Award can my business achieve?

Your organisations overall rating within your sector will be calculated based on an on-line Business Culture Survey (also offered in Welsh), which will be completed by your employees and this will assess their views of the diversity practices within your business.

It will be supported by evidence gathering around management and procedural practices. The survey and evidence will help provide a framework which will guide on organisational improvements. When this has been completed you will be awarded one of the four Fairplay Employer Levels, which you can see below:

Bronze Award

Organisations who are awarded this level of award, will have generally embarked on their EDI journey and will likely have an Equality and Diversity policy in place. There will likely be fewer than 30% women in management. Businesses on this level will have committed to improve the diversity of their workforce.

Silver Award

Organisations in this category will generally be well established on their EDI journey. Their comprehensive short and long-term EDI strategy and action plan sets out their principles, objectives and targets for change within their organisation over a 3-to-5-year period and they will have an up to date and compliant Equality and Diversity Policy in place.

Their senior management team will have at least 30 percent women which may or may not reflect the gender balance within the rest of the organisation. They will be working towards increasing this in senior roles and other areas where there is a high imbalance.

They will have committed to improve the diversity of their workforce.

Gold Award

Organisations in this category will generally be very well established on their EDI journey. Their comprehensive short and long-term EDI strategy and action plan sets out their principles, objectives and targets for change within their organisation over a 3-to-5-year period and they will have an up to date and more than compliant Equality and Diversity Policy in place.

Their senior management team will have at least 40 percent women which may or may not reflect the gender balance within the rest of the organisation. They will be working towards increasing this in senior roles and other areas where there is a high imbalance.

They will have Diversity Champions equipped with the skills and information to help them champion change within their departments, teams and working groups.

Platinum Award

Organisations in this category will generally be very well established on their EDI journey. Their comprehensive short and long-term EDI strategy and action plan sets out their principles, objectives and targets for change within their organisation over a 3-to-5-year period and they will have an up to date and more than compliant Equality and Diversity Policy in place.

They will be collecting equality and diversity monitoring information around the protected characteristics and some organisations will be collecting and analysing the data across the whole employee lifecycle inform policy and practice e.g. recruitment, learning and development.

They will have a well-established vision and high-profile values which are regularly communicated throughout the organisation and lived and breathed by the majority of employees.

Their flexible working policy will go beyond the statutory minimum requirements, and they will offer supervisory and managerial posts on a flexible basis with a high percentage of the workforce being able to access flexible working. They offer flexible work locations and hours.

We’re delighted to receive the Fairplay silver award this year, and are actively working to improve in all areas.
